2007-02-05: Dejal announces BlogAssist 2.1

System menu item to help with HTML markup for blogs and more.

PORTLAND, Oregon -- February 5, 2007 -- Dejal today announced the immediate availability of Dejal BlogAssist 2.1, a handy tool to help weblog and website editing by making HTML markup easier.

There are three easy ways to use it: you can use whichever one you prefer, or all three as desired.

  1. The System Menu: BlogAssist adds a small menu to the right-hand side of the menubar in all applications. You can simply select and copy some text into the clipboard, choose a suitable operation from the menu, then paste the result in the desired location. The text will have been transformed like magic. For example, copying hey and choosing Bold will result in <b>hey</b> - the HTML tags for boldface text, wrapped around the original text.
  2. The Services Menu: BlogAssist also appears in the Services menu, available in most applications. This is really easy to use: just select some text and hit Cmd-< to display a small panel. Simply choose an operation and click OK to drop the marked up text back into your document. The previously copied text also appears in the panel; useful for operations like Web Link that use two values. Copy a URL, select text to use as the link label, hit Cmd-< and choose the operation, then click OK, and you have a web link nicely formatted and inserted.
  3. The Floating Window: This is similar to the Services menu panel, but can be left open as long as you like. It floats above all other windows, alwaywa available. It can be hidden and shown via the BlogAssist system menu. With the floating window displayed, you simply drag text to one or both of its Value fields, choose an operation from the included pop-up menu, then drag the formatted HTML from the Result field. Like the Services panel, this window includes a convenient preview of how the HTML will be rendered in a web page.

BlogAssist comes with several useful operations, including web and e-mail links, bold/italics/strikethrough/etc, LiveJournal tags, and more. But you aren't limited to those - you can add, change, or remove them via the Operations Preferences.

2007-03-09: Dejal announces Caboodle 1.1

Mac OS X application to collect snippets of text and images.

PORTLAND, Oregon -- March 9, 2007 -- Dejal today announced the immediate availability of Dejal Caboodle 1.1, a useful application to collect text, images, and other content.

Everyone comes across information that they want to refer to later. Maybe gifts you've received or sent, product serial numbers, recipes, directions to someone's house, a photo of your pet, or anything else. Caboodle is a tool to help store and organize such varied bits of information.

You can arrange the items in an outline-like hierarchy, and include both structured fields and free-form text and pictures in each entry, along with web links, lists, tables, PDFs, and any other kind of file as attachments.

When you create a new entry within an existing one, the custom fields are inherited, allowing quickly creating content in an organized fashion. But you can also add or remove custom fields independently for each entry.

Entries can be encrypted to hide your most sensitive information. They can also be searched, and the Services menu is supported to quickly add or output an entry.

This update adds support for import and export in several formats - a much-requested feature. Plus an enhanced print function, several user interface improvements, and more.

2007-07-30: Dejal announces Time Out 1.5

A free Mac OS X application to remind you to take regular breaks.

PORTLAND, Oregon -- July 30, 2007 -- Dejal today announced the immediate availability of Dejal Time Out 1.5, a handy break reminder tool for Mac OS X. As David Sinclair of Dejal says, it is very easy to fall into bad habits when using a computer for hours on end; you care about what you are doing, so can sometimes push yourself too far, or over-strain yourself. The human body isn't built to sit in one position for endless hours, gripping a mouse or typing on the keyboard. Dejal Time Out is here to help. It will gently remind you to take a break on a regular basis.

Time Out has two kinds of breaks: a "Normal" break, typically for 10 minutes after 50 minutes of work, so you can move about and relax, plus a "Micro" break: a very brief pause of typically 10 seconds every 10 minutes, so you can remember not to tense up too much for long periods.

You can configure how long each kind of break lasts, and how long between breaks. Each Time Out is announced via the screen slowly dimming, with related graphics materializing, and when the break is complete, it fades out again. You can change the time these transitions take... and you can even change the color and the level of transparency during the break.

This release has a much nicer application icon, plus an improved break layout. By popular request, it also includes options to remove any or all of the buttons, and to change the postpone amounts. So if you find the temptation to skip a break too strong, you can get rid of the button to encourage you to take the break. See the release notes for more information.

Check out the Dejal Blog for the latest Dejal news, including hints on Time Out 2, coming for Leopard:

http://www.dejal.com/blog/

Pricing & Availability:

Time Out is released as "Freeware", requiring no payment for its use. It is immediately available for download from www.dejal.com/timeout/.

Time Out requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later, and is a Universal Binary.

2007-11-19: Dejal announces Caboodle 1.1.3

Mac OS X application to collect snippets of text and images.

PORTLAND, Oregon -- November 19, 2007 -- Dejal today announced the immediate availability of Dejal Caboodle 1.1.3, a useful application to collect text, images, and other content.

This bug-fix release fixes some issues with opening attachments, help, and other areas. It also adds German localization.

2007-12-03: Dejal announces BlogAssist 2.1.2

System menu item to help with HTML markup for blogs and more.

PORTLAND, Oregon -- December 3, 2007 -- Dejal today announced the immediate availability of Dejal BlogAssist 2.1.2, a handy tool to help weblog and website editing by making HTML markup easier.

This update adds German localization, updates the French localization, and other changes; see the release notes for details.

2008-01-04: Dejal announces Time Out 1.5.2

A free Mac OS X application to remind you to take regular breaks.

PORTLAND, Oregon -- February 4, 2008 -- Dejal today announced the immediate availability of Dejal Time Out 1.5.2, a handy break reminder tool for Mac OS X.

This release includes support for Leopard Spaces, and other improvements.

Portland, Oregon - Dejal Systems, LLC is proud to announce Narrator 2.0, the latest version of their popular text-to-speech utility for Mac OS X Leopard. Portland, Oregon - Dejal Systems, LLC today announced the immediate availability of Dejal Caboodle 1.2, a useful application to collect text, images, and other content.

2008-11-13: Dejal Macfilink is now free!

Portland, Oregon - Dejal Systems, LLC today announced the immediate availability of Dejal Macfilink 1.5, a tool to cloak affiliate links to protect your income. Formerly shareware, Macfilink is now freeware; you can use it at no cost.

If you earn income from affiliate links on your website, you need Macfilink. It is an easy and effective tool to help protect your affiliate links from dishonest people who would steal your commissions for themselves.

Macfilink works by cloaking your affiliate link - creating a web page for you to upload to your own site, so that your customers see a page on your site, with your URL, instead of the affiliate URL - but they still see the merchant's site. They never see your affiliate link, so they can't remove your affiliate ID or change it to their own.

You don't need to know anything about HTML for it to work. You simply enter the affiliate URL, and Macfilink creates an encoded HTML page for you. You can add a heading (e.g. to link back to your site, or a banner), and other options. You can then copy the HTML, save it to disk, or even have Macfilink upload it directly to your web server!

Language Support:
English

Minimum Requirements:
* Mac OS X Version 10.3.9 or later (Leopard-ready)
* Universal Binary for PowerPC and Intel
* 2.7 MB disk space

Pricing and Availability:
Dejal Macfilink 1.5 is available completely free of charge.

2009-05-04: Dejal announces Time Out 1.5.4

A free Mac OS X application to remind you to take regular breaks.

PORTLAND, Oregon -- May 4, 2009 -- Dejal today announced the immediate availability of Dejal Time Out 1.5.4, a handy break reminder tool for Mac OS X.

This release includes compatibility with Apple's upcoming Snow Leopard operating system, updates the built in Adium script, and other changes. See the release notes for more information.

Check out the Dejal Blog for the latest Dejal news, including hints on Time Out 2, coming for Leopard and later:

http://www.dejal.com/blog/

Pricing & Availability:

Time Out is released as "Freeware", requiring no payment for its use. It is immediately available for download from www.dejal.com/timeout/.

Time Out requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later, and is a Universal Binary.

2009-06-01 Dejal announces BlogAssist 2.2.2

Summary:

A handy tool to help weblog and website editing by making HTML markup easier. BlogAssist can be accessed via a system menu, the Services menu, or a floating window. This release includes some much-requested tweaks, a slight price increase, and changed system requirements.

PORTLAND, Oregon - Dejal Systems, LLC today announced the immediate availability of Dejal BlogAssist 2.2.2, a handy tool to help weblog and website editing by making HTML markup easier.

This release includes a change to the Enter key behavior in the Services window, avoids adding itself to the Login Items on launch, and other tweaks. It also has a slight price increase, and now requires Tiger as a minimum OS version.

Language Support:

English, French, German

Minimum Requirements:

* Mac OS X version 10.4 or later (Leopard-ready)
* Universal Binary for PowerPC and Intel
* 2 MB disk space

Pricing & Availability:

Dejal BlogAssist 2.2.2 is available from $14.95 USD, and available as a full-featured demo. This is a slight price increase, though you can still get it at the old price via the Dejal Store. This is a free update for licensed BlogAssist users.

2009-09-11: Dejal apps updated for Snow Leopard

Summary:

Dejal Systems, LLC today announced that four of their popular Mac apps have been updated for Snow Leopard compatibility: Dejal Simon, an essential server monitoring tool, Time Out, a break reminder tool, Caboodle, a lean clean snippet machine, and BlogAssist, a handy HTML markup assistant. Also, for a limited time, Dejal Narrator is available as a bonus app in TheMacBundles, a bundle of 12 great Mac products.

Portland, Oregon - Dejal Systems, LLC today announced that four of their popular Mac apps have been updated for Snow Leopard compatibility: Dejal Simon, Time Out, Caboodle, and BlogAssist.

Dejal Simon is the essential site monitoring tool for Mac OS X, and Dejal's flagship product. It checks servers for changes or failures, and notifies you via email, sound, speech, or other means. You can use it to track updated sites, and to alert you when an important server goes down or recovers. It can be used to monitor your own website and servers, track posts and new comments on your or friends' blogs, check for web mail, get notifications of updates to favorite news and entertainment websites, keep an eye on auctions, communicate with arbitrary servers, and many other uses.

Time Out is a free utility to gently remind you to take a break on a regular basis. It has two kinds of breaks: a "Normal" break, typically for 10 minutes after 50 minutes of work, so you can move about and relax, plus a "Micro" break: a very brief pause of typically 10 seconds every 10 minutes, so you can remember not to tense up too much for long periods. The breaks are fully configurable.

Everyone comes across information that they want to refer to later. Maybe gifts you've received or sent, product serial numbers, recipes, directions to someone's house, a photo of your pet, or anything else. Dejal Caboodle is a tool to help store and organize such varied bits of information, with a unique organization where any entry can contain other entries, which inherit their parent's attributes.

BlogAssist is a handy tool to help weblog and website editing by making HTML markup easier. It includes a system menu that uses text on the clipboard, a Services menu command that displays a small panel to choose the operation to perform on selected text, and display a preview (via WebKit), and a similar floating window that can be left open. Any one or a combination of those can be used to make HTML markup easier.

Another product, Narrator, is not yet fully compatible with Snow Leopard. It works, but can only open documents not saved in its native format. Dejal's developer, David Sinclair, says that a fix is being worked on with Apple's help. A free update will be released as soon as possible.

Narrator is a fun app to read out stories and interviews in multiple voices. For a limited time, Narrator is available as part of TheMacBundles - a bundle of 12 great Mac products for just $49.95.

2010-03-07: Dejal introduces Tweeps for iPhone

Summary:

Introducing Tweeps for iPhone OS. Manage Twitter accounts on your iPhone or iPod touch: edit your avatar, name, bio, or location; follow, unfollow, block, and find people.

Portland, Oregon - Dejal Systems, LLC today introduced Tweeps version 1.0 for the iPhone and iPod touch, with an iPad edition in the works. Tweeps is a Twitter companion app. It isn't a full Twitter client -- you can't post tweets from it. Instead, it is a tool to manage your Twitter account. Edit your avatar, name, bio text, website URL and location, plus follow/unfollow people, see if someone follows you, block people, and find people.

EDIT YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION:

Add multiple accounts to Tweeps, and easily edit them:

- Take a photo or choose one from your photo library to change your avatar picture.
- Edit the name displayed for your account.
- Change the biographical text -- the description you write about yourself.
- Edit the website URL, previewing it in an integrated web browser.
- Set your current location using the device's GPS, or type a less specific location, and preview on an integrated map view.

VIEW INFORMATION ABOUT TWITTER PEOPLE:

Learn all about your own accounts and others:

- See the display name, username, how long they've been using Twitter, and their Twitter ID.
- View the avatar picture, including full-sized, and copy it if desired.
- FOLLOW or UNFOLLOW other people. The left button indicates whether or not you already follow them.
- The right button indicates whether or not the displayed person follows you.
- Tap the right button to display a BLOCK button; you can also optionally report them as a spammer.
- Read the bio description text.
- See the website URL, and tap to display it in an integrated web browser.
- See the location, and tap to display it on an integrated map.
- Read the most recent tweet (update), along with the total number of tweets that have been posted; tap to read any number of recent tweets.
- See the number of people currently being followed (Following) and who follow the person (Followers); tap to list them and explore further.
- When viewing your own account, you can also see lists of tweets that mention you and people you're blocking.
- Find other Twitter people by username, first/last name, company, or brand name.

DELVE DEEPER:

Read recent tweets from each person, or skim through the lists of people you're following and who follow you, and see more information about them, including who they follow and who follows them. A great way to discover interesting new people to follow -- and you don't need to wonder if you already follow them or not, since it is shown right in the profile detail information.

Load newer updates simply by scrolling to the top, or automatically load more tweets or people by scrolling to the bottom.

A nice feature is rotation support -- Tweeps works in all orientations, like an iPad, plus displays a fun wobbling rotation lock button to stop it rotating when you want to read lying on your side.

LEARN MORE:

See a demo video and more screenshots on the Tweeps website.

2010-05-04: Dejal announces Simon 2.5.7

Summary:

Dejal Systems, LLC today announced Simon version 2.5.7, the essential server monitoring tool for Mac OS X. It checks websites and many other kinds of services for changes or failures, with lots of notification and reporting options. Version 2.5.7 includes a couple of important fixes, and may be the last release before version 2.6, which drops Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) support.

Portland, Oregon - Dejal Systems, LLC today announced the immediate availability of Dejal Simon 2.5.7, the essential server monitoring tool for Mac OS X. It checks web pages, FTP and DNS servers, local or remote ports or volumes, and other services for changes or failures, and notifies you via e-mail, sound, speech, Twitter, SMS, HTML reports, and other means.

Add tests to Simon to track updated sites, to alert you when an important server goes down or recovers, check on Samba SMB, take periodic screenshots of the system, track posts and new comments on your or friends' blogs, check for web mail, make sure a key application is running, get notifications of updates to favorite news and entertainment websites, keep an eye on auctions, and many other uses.

Receive notification of changes, failures, and/or recoveries via various Actions, auto-generated E-mail messages, Growl notifications, Twitter updates or direct messages, SMS messages, an audible Sound, or customizable Speech. You can use custom scripts and port sessions for notifiers too.

HTML reports allow remote viewing of a summary and/or details of Simon monitoring. Reports can be saved to a local web server, or uploaded remotely. Customizable templates (with several examples provided) allow embedding in a web page, using a compact format suitable for viewing on PDAs and cellphones, creating a RSS feed, and more.

Version 2.5.7 fixes a bug in the Port plug-in where it would misbehave if the text to receive or send started with a "-" character. This could affect many people, as the default Incoming Email (POP) service uses this when the server doesn't accept the login. It also fixes an issue where a notification could fail if the TestChangeCount, TestFailureCount or TestRecoveryCount variables are used.

Dejal also mentioned that version 2.6, currently scheduled for release in July, will require Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) as a minimum OS. So unless there are any further bug-fix releases before 2.6 is released, this will be the last version that supports Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger).

Language Support:

English, French, German, Japanese

Minimum Requirements:

* Mac OS X version 10.4 or later (Snow Leopard-ready)
* Universal Binary for PowerPC and Intel
* 36 MB disk space

Pricing and Availability:

Dejal Simon 2.5.7 is available from $29.95 USD, and available as a full-featured demo. This is a free update for licensed Simon 2 users.

Portland, Oregon - Dejal Systems, LLC and Mariner Software, Inc today announced the acquisition of Narrator by Minneapolis-based Mariner Software. Narrator is a popular Mac OS X software that allows the user to read stories out loud using speech synthesis. With no plans at this time to change the application’s title, the software product will be rereleased under the Mariner brand in the near future.

Using the rich voices already provided within the Mac OS X system, Narrator supplies controls that allows the user to choose a voice actor – adjusting the speed and pitch of the actor’s voice as well as inflection and volume – when reading the user added content. A dictionary preference allows substitution of words or phrases and to fine-tune pronunciation.

Other features of Narrator include:

- Exporting to iTunes, complete with track attributes including lyrics; great for listening to Narrator stories on an iPod or iPhone.
- The ability to create audiobooks
- Support for multiple chapters in each document
- Ability to export to a AAC sound file
- Multiple voice characters in a single document
- Syncing to the iPhone, iPad and iPod

"Adding Narrator to our product line made good sense to us," said Michael Wray, President of Mariner Software. "A product like Narrator which allows a screenplay or story to be read aloud with different voices, is a nice fit with all our creative writing products."

"Narrator was my first product for Mac OS X, so I’ve always had a soft spot for it, even though I haven’t been able to devote as much time to it as I’d like," said David Sinclair, Founder of Dejal. "I am therefore very pleased that Narrator has found such a great new home, where it can get the attention it deserves."

Pricing and Availability:

Narrator will be available, in the near future, for sale and trial on the Mariner Software web site and selected retailers. The shipping version will be available in English, French and German. A selling price has not yet been established. Current registered Narrator users will be able to upgrade to the Mariner-branded version for free. Narrator requires Mac OS X 10.5 or higher.

2011-02-24: Dejal donating 100% Mac sales for Christchurch earthquake relief

Summary:

Dejal Systems, LLC today announced that it is donating 100% from sales of its Mac apps for the rest of this week to relief efforts for the Christchurch earthquake.

Portland, Oregon - As you may have heard, the city of Christchurch in New Zealand had another major earthquake a couple of days ago, having suffered a big one late last year.

This quake (or series of quakes) has done a huge amount of damage, both to homes and major landmarks like the cathedral. Hundreds of people are still missing, and at least 75 were killed, with the toll still climbing.

David Sinclair, owner of Dejal, an indie Mac and iOS software publisher, said "I was born in New Zealand, and lived there until 2001. Although I don't have any friends or family in Christchurch, I know people who do. I feel that I really want to do something to help the relief efforts."

Dejal has announced that for the rest of this week (i.e. till midnight PST on Sunday Feb 27, 2011), it will donate 100% of the proceeds from Dejal Mac app sales to the New Zealand Red Cross, to help fund their relief efforts.

If you're at all interested in any Dejal products, now is the time to buy. Your money will help those suffering from this disaster.

And if you don't need any of the apps, Mr Sinclair urges you to make a donation to the NZ Red Cross directly.

Dejal Mac apps include:

* Simon: Monitor sites for changes or failures
* Time Out: Break reminder tool with micro-breaks (donate any amount to get a version 2 license)
* Caboodle: Lean, clean snippet machine
* BlogAssist: System menu to help with HTML markup for blogs and more

2011-08-29: Dejal announces Time Out 1.6

Summary:

Dejal Systems, LLC today announced Time Out version 1.6, a handy break reminder tool for Mac. It is available completely free. Version 1.6 adds app exclusion preferences, the ability to pause breaks for a specified time interval, Lion compatibility, and other improvements.

Portland, Oregon - Dejal Systems, LLC today announced the immediate availability of Dejal Time Out 1.6, a handy break reminder tool for Mac OS X.

Version 1.6 adds app exclusion preferences, the ability to pause breaks for a specified time interval, Lion compatibility, and other improvements.

Minimum Requirements:

* Mac OS X version 10.5 or later (Lion-ready)
* Universal Binary for PowerPC and Intel
* 6 MB disk space

Pricing & Availability:

The standard edition of Time Out 1.6 is immediately available from the Dejal website. It is released as "Freeware", requiring no payment for its use, though donations are encouraged and appreciated.

Time Out Free 1.6 will be available on the Mac App Store once Apple has reviewed it.

2012-02-13: Dejal announces BlogAssist 2.3 in TheMacBundles

Summary:

A handy tool to help weblog and website editing by making HTML markup easier. BlogAssist can be accessed via a system menu, the Services menu, or a floating window. This release includes minor improvements, a price reduction, and changed system requirements.

BlogAssist is available as part of TheMacBundles for a limited time.

PORTLAND, Oregon - Dejal Systems, LLC today announced the immediate availability of Dejal BlogAssist 2.3, a handy tool to help weblog and website editing by making HTML markup easier.

BlogAssist is featured in TheMacBundles, a collection of 10 great apps for only $39.95.

This release includes minor improvements. It also has a price reduction, and now requires Leopard as a minimum OS version.

Language Support:

English, French, German

Minimum Requirements:

* Mac OS X version 10.5 or later (Lion-ready)
* Universal Binary for PowerPC and Intel
* 2 MB disk space

Pricing & Availability:

Dejal BlogAssist 2.3 is normally $9.00 USD, but is also included in TheMacBundles, which includes 9 other great apps for only $39.95.

A full-featured demo is available. This is a free update for licensed BlogAssist users. It is also available on the Mac App Store.
